PARENT & TOT 1/2 (4 mos - 2y)
This combination course is structured to help introduce and further kids and their adults learning, understanding and comfort within the water. Kids will learn under the care of a parent or guardian and the watchful eye of their instructor. They will learn how to safely enter and exit the water with assistance and work on getting ready to discover the water safely. Parents will learn how to safely support their child while they play. Parents will learn proper and safe support for floats, kicks and bobs!

PARENT & TOT 2/3 (2y - 3y)
This combination course is designed to provide the foundation and introductions to both parent and tot about water safety. Parents will be taught how to support their child on their front and back, as well as with entries and exits. Parents will support their child in becoming more independent in the water while getting in and out, bobbing, floating and movement skills. Children will also begin working between the parent and instructor to become more comfortable and confident when the time comes to move to the preschool levels.

SWIM PRESCHOOL 1 (3Y-5Y)

Preschool gives children an early start on learning to swim. Children 3-5 years old will have fun while gaining foundational water skills and become comfortable in the water. Water Smart education is incorporated into all Preschool levels to support children in learning how to keep themselves safe in and around the water.

SWIM PRESCHOOL 1/2 (3Y-5Y)

In this combination course, preschoolers will work through preschool 1 and preschool 2 throughout the session. The majority of these courses are taught with lifejackets and/or instructor assistance. Preschoolers in this level 1/2 split will work on becoming comfortable and more confident in the water. They will work on bubbles, bobs, floats, gliding, kicking and water smart messages.

SWIM PRESCHOOL 2 (3Y-5Y)

Preschoolers will work on becoming more independent with their water skills. Some of these skills include jumping into chest deep water unassisted, submerging and exhaling underwater, and floating and gliding with various buoyant aids. They will be introduced to lateral rollovers and practice their flutter kick on their backs.

SWIM PRESCHOOL 2/3 (3Y-5Y)

This combination class sets students up to work through Preschool 2 and 3. Some skills learned between the two levels include jumping into chest deep and shoulder deep water and transitioning away from use of lifejackets. Swimmers will also work on submerging and exhaling underwater, floats, glides, kicks and rolls. They will also begin to explore object retrieval and work towards mastery of basics with and without a lifejacket, and with less assistance. Swimmers registering in this level must be comfortable with putting their face in the water and doing a bob.

SWIM PRESCHOOL 3 (3Y-5Y)

Preschoolers will kick and glide their way through the water on their front and back. Swimmers will work on retrieving objects from the bottom in waist deep water, and work towards mastering their floats, rollovers, glides, and kicks. In this level they will also work their way into deeper water for side entries and jumping in with lifejackets on.

SWIM PRESCHOOL 3/4 (3Y-5Y)

This combination class sets students up to work through Preschool 3 and 4. Some skills learned between the two levels will be kicking and gliding on their front, back, as well as floating on their front and back. They will also learn object recovery in waist deep water, as well as learning deep water skills in a lifejacket such as treading water and exiting deep water on their own.

SWIM PRESCHOOL 4/5 (3Y-5Y)

This combination class is for swimmers who are able to swim independently with minimal use of a lifejacket and with minimal instructor support. Preschoolers have progressed to swimming independently and are comfortable in the water. They will learn sideways and forwards entries, and they will also be introduced to front crawl, back crawl, treading water and interval training.

SWIMMER 1 (6Y-12Y)

Swimmer is a 6-level, success-oriented learn to swim program for children 6-12 years old. There is a prominent focus on in-water swimming practice as swimmers learn fundamental strokes and skills, mastering them as they progress through the program. Swimmers also learn how to be safe in, on, and around the water through Water Smart education incorporated into every level.

SWIMMER 1/2 (6Y-12Y)

This combination class is for beginners who want to work towards building their skills in deeper water as well as shallower water. Swimmers will gain confidence and build beginner swim skills such as floating, gliding, kicking, front and back crawl and vertical whip kick. It is recommended that swimmers are comfortable putting their face in the water before joining the combo class. Swimmers will also be introduced to the roll, tread, swim skills for Swim to Survive.

SWIMMER 2 (6Y-12Y)

Swimmers will gain comfort in deeper water by jumping in, learning their sideways entry, and treading water without a lifejacket. Swimmers will be challenged by the introduction of various skills including flutter kick on their front, back, and side, vertical whip kick with an aid, and swimming front crawl and back crawl for 10m. Swimmers will get to work on their Swim to Survive skills and be introduced to interval training.

SWIMMER 2/3 (6y-12y)

This combination course is designed to move swimmers to deeper water and have them comfortable treading water without a lifejacket. The program is recommended for those who have previously taken swimmer 2 and are on track to moving to swimmer 3 at a streamlined pace. Swimmers will learn kneeling dives, and fun skills such as hand stands, rolls and somersaults. Swimmers will also move towards completing more distance in front crawl, back crawls and Swim to survive throughout the lessons. Recommended: swimmers who are retaking Swimmer 2

SWIMMER 3 (6y-12y)

Swimmers will make a splash with their kneeling dives and forward roll entries. Swimmers will be challenged with the introduction to more difficult (but fun) skills such as handstands in shallow water and in front somersaults (in water). Increased time and distance components are incorporated for skills learned such as flutter kick on front and back, whip kick on back, front and back crawl, and interval training.

SWIMMER 3/4 (6y-12y)

This combination course is designed for those who are comfortable in deep water and can swim 25m minimum without assistance. Swimmers are beginning to move to the intermediate level in this combination course where they learn to tread water for 30 – 60 seconds, increase front crawl and back crawl distances to 25m – 50m, Complete the full Swim to Survive standards of roll into deep water, tread water for 1 minute, and swim 50m. In addition, while progressing to swimmer 4, swimmers will be introduced to breaststroke.

SWIMMER 4 (6y-12y)

Swimmers will move from a beginner to intermediate swimming level. Swimmers will complete standing dives, tread water for 1 minute, and work towards being able to swim underwater for 5 m. Swimmers will achieve the Swim to Survive standard by being able to roll into deep water, tread water for 1 minute, and swim 50m. In addition to improving their front crawl, back crawl, and whip kick, swimmers will be introduced to breaststroke.

This combination of Swimmer 5 and 6 will help to prepare participants to move onto the patrol levels. Some of the skills involved will be various entries into deep water, as well as lifesaving kick development. They will also be working on stroke refinement to assist with strength, power and speed. This combination course will also challenge fitness and strength by implementing longer distance swims.

YOUNG ADULT SWIMMER 1/2 (13Y-17Y)
This combination course is designed for beginner swimmers who are interested in learning in a more mature environment. Young adult swimmers will learn and build on a variety of skills. They will learn the basics of swimming such as floats, kicking, submersion and recovery. Stroke development will be covered based on the class’ advancement, encompassing front and back crawl, as well as whip kick. Finally, young adult swimmers will also learn a variety of deep end skills including entries, treading water, all leading up to completing the Swim to Survive standard: Roll into deep water, tread water for 1 minute, and swim 50m.

YOUNG ADULT SWIMMER 2/3 (13Y-17Y)
This combination course is designed for intermediate to advanced swimmers who are interested in learning in a more mature environment. Young adult swimmers will continue to build on skills previously learned in adult 1. This includes continued stroke development for front and back crawl, whip kick and breaststroke. Swimmers will also build on their entries including roll entries, shallow dives, and more. Swimmers will also further their abilities to tread water utilizing eggbeater, and they will also work toward workout goals, such as the 300m workout or 25m-50m sprints.

CANADIAN SWIM PATROL - Rookie, Ranger and Star (9 - 13Y)

The Lifesaving Society’s 3-level Canadian Swim Patrol program is for swimmers who are ready to go beyond learn-to-swim. The programs focus on developing strength and proficiency while introducing swimmers to the challenging world of lifesaving. Swimmers will have fun enhancing their capabilities in the water, increasing their physical conditioning, and learning lifesaving judgment. Each level will continue to develop swimmers’ strokes and provide a skill foundation that will prepare them for success in the Society’s Bronze Medal Awards. Each level of the Canadian Swim Patrol program has three modules: Water Proficiency, First Aid, and Recognition and Rescue. These courses are taught in combination with one another and are designed to prepare swimmers for the next steps towards starting their journey into certification programs.

Prerequisites: Recommended 9+ years old, completion of Swimmer 6 OR has completed a swim assessment.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS (3Y+)

Private lessons are fluidly designed to work on specific skills or levels with an individual. These classes are designed to be 1 on 1 with an instructor who can tailor the needs of the individual and help them achieve their goals. If there are two swimmers who are within 1 level of one another (approximately at the same swim level), an additional swimmer may be added to create a semi-private. Please register 1 person for the private and proceed to call Vivo Guest Services to inquire about the addition of a swimmer.

ADULT SWIMMER (18+) - COMING SOON

Beginners just starting out or swimmers looking to improve their strokes will find that the Adult Swimmer program will help them achieve their swimming goals. Swimmers will work with a certified instructor to gain confidence in the water, develop smooth recognizable strokes, and improve their water fitness. Water Smart education is incorporated into all levels to support the Lifesaving Society’s mandate of drowning prevention.

Vivo will offer Adult Swimmer programming in the future.

SWIMABILITIES® (3Y -16Y) - COMING SOON

SwimAbilities is a 4-level swimming program designed to break down swimming skills into small, manageable components with logical progressions that support opportunities for success. This program is for children and youth that are 3-16 years of age and require additional support while in the water and when learning to swim **No diagnosis required**. Swimmers will benefit from a slower paced program that provides more visual support, one on-one assistance, and personal modifications. During lessons, swimmers must have a parent, caregiver, or aide in the water to support a safe learning environment. Swimmers and their caregivers are assisted by the instructor as they learn to be safe and independent while enjoying the water.

Vivo will offer Swimabilities programming in the future.

National Lifeguard Instructor - COMING SOON

National Lifeguard Instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates participating in the National Lifeguard Pool, Waterpark, Waterfront and Surf programs. The National Lifeguard Instructor course prepares Instructors to apply level 3 leadership competencies and strategies while teaching and evaluating.

Vivo will offer National Lifeguard Instructor Programming in the future.

First Aid Instructor - COMING SOON

First Aid Instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates participating in the Lifesaving Society CPR, Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Aquatic Emergency Care, CPR-HCP, and Oxygen Administration programs. The First Aid Instructor course prepares Instructors to apply level 1 leadership competencies and strategies while teaching and evaluating.

Vivo will offer First Aid Instructor programming in the future.

Swim Assessments

During a Swim Assessment, a certified instructor evaluates the swimmer’s ability to complete a series of skills. Based on their assessment, the evaluating instructor will make a recommendation on what Lifesaving Society program and level will be the best fit for them.

Swimmer Assessments are for:
– Swimmers who have had a break in their swimming lesson attendance
– Individuals who have had no formal swim training
– Swimmers who are coming from other learn to swim programs
– Swimmers who believe they are at a certain level but don’t have the required prerequisite are eligible to book a swim assessment to be properly placed

Swim Attire Policies

We require members and guests to wear clean conventional swimwear or specific alternatives, such as long-sleeved pants, shorts, or traditional clothing with appropriate undergarments or swimsuits underneath.

Swimmers must wear swim bottoms at all times; however, individuals can choose to swim without a top, aligning with our inclusive policies.

Harassment is not tolerated, and all individuals, including those under 18, are equally protected.  

Babies and toddlers between the ages of 3 and 36 months, and those over 36 months who are not toilet trained, can use our pools with a guardian’s supervision and must wear swim diapers, gabby pants and a swimsuits.

Children under 9 must stay within arm’s reach of their guardian.
