Sensory time is BACK….or back (said very softly)

Posted September 13 2024

Monday to Thursday From 1pm – 3pm throughout Vivo.

Unlike the caps lock we just introduced it with……, Sensory Time is all about peace, quiet, and calm. We’re so excited to bring this much-loved experience back to the community! From 1-3pm, Monday through Thursday, Vivo will transform into a gentle, low-sensory oasis. A huge thank you to Adapted Hub for their generous sponsorship, making this possible again.

During Sensory Time, you can pick up a Sensory Backpack from Vivo Guest Services! It’s packed with calming tools and sensory toys designed to help you unwind and fully enjoy this peaceful experience. (Please note, Sensory Time won’t be available on school PD Days or holidays, but it’ll be ready to greet you again after!)

What is Sensory Time?

We’ve all been told that adopting a few quiet moments a day to meditate can positively affect our mental health, right? Well, Sensory Time is essentially a time of calm meditation for the Vivo Centre! When you visit Vivo during the hours of 1-3pm you will notice the lights have been dimmed, the music is low, and your mind has permission to slow down. We operate all areas of the building at 50% capacity during Sensory Time to keep things quiet and welcoming for those with sensory sensitivities.

Why Sensory Time?

At Vivo, we believe in being a space for everyone. Sensory Time is a special opportunity to create a slower, quieter environment for those who need it—or simply appreciate it! Research shows that gentle lighting, a slower pace, and quieter surroundings help reduce stress, boost focus, and give our minds a break. We could all use a little more of that, right?

Where Can I Find Sensory Time?

Everywhere! From the lobby to the pool, all public spaces operate at 50% capacity during Sensory Time. Plus, our dedicated Sensory Room (West Entrance Learning Commons) is open for even more quiet. Inside, you’ll find low lighting, yoga mats, chairs, and noise-cancelling headphones—all there to help you feel comfortable and at ease.
