We’re here to help make every swim lesson safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate for your child. With a focus on safety and community, we’ve created this step-by-step guide to help you find the perfect class. By following these steps, you’re not only supporting your child’s growth in swimming skills but also contributing to our shared goal of creating healthier generations
- Find the Appropriate Age Group
- Start by selecting the correct age group for your child using our registration guide. This ensures that your child will be surrounded by peers in a similar stage of development, creating a comfortable, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
- Why Age Group Matters: Each age group’s class structure is tailored to your child’s physical, social, and cognitive needs. Here’s how we adapt each class for the age group:
- Class Ratios: Instructor-to-student ratios vary, keeping safety a top priority.
- Pool Space: Pool sections are assigned based on age-appropriate safety needs.
- Motor Skills: Activities are customized to meet each age group’s gross and fine motor skills.
- Class Duration: Time in the pool matches the attention span and stamina of each age group.
- Learning Styles: Instructors use techniques, games, and drills best suited to the age group’s developmental stage.
- Safety First: Choosing the right age group ensures your child learns safely and effectively alongside peers, enhancing their comfort and confidence.
2. Choose the Correct Skill Level
- Select the appropriate level for your child based on their current swimming ability and any completed prerequisites. Take a look on their last swimming report card the section “Register next in:….” this will tell you what level to register them in next.
- Helpful Tools on Our Website:
- Lesson Descriptions: Review detailed descriptions in our program guide for insights into each level’s focus, skill expectations, and goals.
- Lesson Conversion Chart: Check out our swim lesson conversion chart to understand the progression and prerequisites needed for each level.
- Flow Chart: Visualize your child’s path with our program guide’s flow chart, outlining prerequisites and next steps for each level.
- Swim Assessment: If you’re unsure which level is best, consider booking a swim assessment. Our team can guide you in making the best choice for a safe, successful experience.
- When in doubt our aquatics team recommends registering them in the first level or the level they are currently in.
3. Avoid Overbooking and Assumptions About Progression
- While planning is natural, registering your child in back-to-back levels in one season is not recommended unless they’ve already mastered the skills at their current level.
- Best Practice: For ongoing practice, we encourage families to consider enrolling in the same lesson more than once. This strategy builds confidence, strength, fitness, endurance, and water safety skills, providing the time needed to truly master each technique.
- Skill Mastery Takes Time: Each swim level has multiple skills that must be completed to pass. It’s normal for children to repeat a level more than once, as learning and perfecting water safety and swim techniques often takes multiple sessions.
4. Risks of Early Registration in Advanced Levels
- Holding Space Prematurely: Registering for a higher level before your child has met the prerequisites can unintentionally take a spot from a child who’s ready, and your child may miss out on the benefits of age-appropriate instruction.
- Refund Policy: Please remember that our 14-day refund policy applies. If a child doesn’t progress as anticipated, consecutive registrations may not be eligible for a refund. Transfers to another level are possible if space is available, with a transfer fee.
- Right Level for Safety and Success: Children enrolled in a level they’re not ready for may be removed from the program without refunds, withdrawals, or transfers available. Proper registration helps ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone.
