City of Calgary Water Restrictions – Starting August 26th

Posted August 22 2024

Team Vivo has some important updates to share with our valued guests:

Upcoming water restrictions for critical water main break remediation.

As the City of Calgary has communicated here – https://www.calgary.ca/emergencies/critical-water-main-break-june-2024.html  “During the repair period from August 26 to the end of September, we will need to once again ask Calgarians to take steps to conserve water to make sure we have enough for urgent needs. This will include:

  • A return to Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions, meaning no outdoor use of potable water.
  • We will be asking residents to take three specific actions:
  • Limit showers to three minutes
  • Skip flushes when you can
  • Only wash full loads of dishes and laundry.
  • Businesses use water in different ways, so we will again be asking them to find ways to aim for a 25 per cent reduction in daily water during the period of the closure. We do not intend to close car washes, indoor pools, or other businesses during this time.

Vivo will be reducing our 25% in the following manner from August 26th until the City lifts the restrictions:

The following will be impacted or closed:

  • Hot Tub Closed – requires a weekly drain/clean/refill
  • Steam Room Closed – constant use of water
  • Tot Pool Closed – requires a weekly drain/clean/refill
  • Showers Shortened – Aquatics/Swimming Pool/Fitness
  • Arena – Showers Closed
  • Outdoor Watering of Grass and Plants – stopped

What will continue to remain open:

  • All other aquatics/pools – lane pool, leisure pool and sauna to remain open
  • Arenas
  • Climbing Wall
  • Indoor Park
  • Fitness Centre
  • All Lessons/Camps/Bookings will move ahead as planned

Recreation buildings have reputations for being a high user of water, however, at Vivo water conservation a key theme, indoors and out.

Here are some of Vivo’s design measures to conserve water:

  • 95% reduction in pool water use thanks to our regenerative filtration system.
  • 37% reduction from LEED v4 baseline in indoor water use due to low-flow fixtures.
  • 84% reduction from LEED v4 baseline for outdoor water use thanks to drought-tolerant plants and an efficient irrigation system.
  • Smart, low-water irrigation system conserves drinking water.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our guests and team for adhering to the recommendations to limit non-essential water use.
