Registered Skating Programs

Vivo’s Skating Lessons are registered programs that help skaters of all ages and skill levels learn and grow – everyone is welcome! This is a fun and exciting way to stay active, make new friends, build confidence, and improve balance and coordination.

Join one of our skating lessons for a safe, supportive environment where you can glide with confidence and face new challenges—one stride at a time.

Vivo's Skating Lessons & Programs

Guardian & Tot Skate

Ages 3 to 6

Help your child feel safe and have fun on the ice! In this class, kids skate with their guardian and learn basic skills through fun games. They’ll learn how to fall, get up, balance, and march on skates while building confidence for a lifetime of skating!

Note: Both the child and guardian are required to wear CSA-Approved Skating Helmets.

Prerequisites: 3 to 6 years old. The adult guardian must be a competent skater to support the child on the ice.

PreSkate

Ages 3 & 4

It’s all fun and games as new skaters learn to be comfortable on the ice by playing games and developing basic balance and coordination skills – leading to a lifelong love of the activity! Preschoolers learn how to fall down, get up, balance, and march.

Note: Participants are required to wear a CSA-Approved Skating Helmet.

Level 1 Skate

Ages 4 to 8 or Ages 8 to 12

An introduction to skating – leading to a lifelong love of the activity! Gain confidence and learn basic skills such as marching forward and backward, falling, 2-foot jump on the spot, making snow with both feet, and balance.

Note: Participants are required to wear a CSA-Approved Skating Helmet.

Prerequisites: 4 to 12 years old.

Level 2 Skate

Ages 4 to 8 or Ages 8 to 12

Skaters learn gliding, forward snowplow stop, two-foot half turn jump, forward sculling, backward skating with speed, half turn with two feet on the same spot.

Note: Participants are required to wear a CSA-Approved Skating Helmet.

Prerequisites: 4 to 12 years old AND passed Level 1 Skate OR have a coach recommendation from Parent and Tot or PreSkate.

Level 3 Skate

Ages 4 to 8 or Ages 8 to 12

Skaters learn gliding, circle-thrusts, two-foot jump while gliding, half snowplow stops, backward snowplow stops, crossover on a line, and half-turn on two feet while gliding.

Note: Participants are required to wear a CSA-Approved Skating Helmet.

Prerequisites: 4 to 12 years old AND passed Level 2 Skate.

Level 4 Skate

Ages 4 to 8 or Ages 8 to 12

Skaters learn one-foot glides on a curve, forward crossovers, backward C-push, backward sculling, backward circle-thrusts, two-foot turn on curve, two-foot jump half-turn while gliding, and forward two-foot side stops.

Note: Participants are required to wear a CSA-Approved Skating Helmet.

Prerequisites: 4 to 12 years old AND passed Level 3 Skate.

Level 5 Skate

Ages 8 to 12

Skaters learn forward spiral, backwards crossovers, two-foot spin, two-foot half-turn jumps, outside three-turn, and backwards snow plow stops.

Note: Participants are required to wear a CSA-Approved Skating Helmet.

Prerequisites: 8 to 12 years old AND passed Level 4 Skate.

Level 6 Skate

Ages 8 to 12

Skaters learn backwards spiral, forwards one-foot stops, backwards one-foot stops, one-foot spins, inside three-turn, forward inside edges, and backwards inside edges.

Prerequisites: 8 to 12 years old AND passed Level 5 Skate.

Level 7 Skate

Ages 8 to 12

Skaters learn one-foot half-sit, T-stop, one-foot spin, mohawk, forward outside edges, and backward outside edges.

Note: Participants are required to wear a CSA-Approved Skating Helmet.

Prerequisites: 8 to 12 years old AND passed Level 6 Skate.

Pre-Power Skating

Ages 6 to 10

This class is an introductory course that builds skating skills for new hockey and ringette players. Skaters will work on speed, agility, balance and power – everything a player needs to build their game! Class sizes are flexible to meet the needs of the session.

Note: Participants are required to bring a stick and wear hockey/ringette gear, including CSA-Approved Skating Helmet.

Prerequisites: 6 to 10 years old AND passed Level 1 Skate.

Power Skating

Ages 8 to 12

This class builds skating skills for hockey and ringette players. Skaters will work on speed, agility, balance, and power – everything a player needs to build their game! Class sizes are flexible to meet the needs of the session.

Adult Skate

Ages 16+

It’s never too late to for an introduction to skating, leading to a lifelong love of the activity! Gain confidence on ice, learn basic skating skills, or fine-tune the skills you already have. Class sizes are flexible to meet the needs of the session.

Private Skating

Ages 4+

Work on your skating skills in a supportive, one-on-one environment with a certified skating instructor. Develop and learn a curriculum that works best for you and your goals. This is a great skating option for anyone, regardless of level of ability, skill, or age!

Drop-In Skating

Vivo membership or day pass admission grants you access to public skating drop-in times. You can even grab your hockey or ringette gear and join us for Sticks, Pucks & Rings.

Please Note:

  • Admission is included in all Vivo memberships.
  • Non-members can purchase a day pass to gain access to Vivo Centre.

Planning a birthday party, organizing an event, or booking time for your team? Our arenas provide the perfect setting, ensuring a memorable experience for everyone.

Please Note:

  • Preferred rates are available for Community Associations and Sport Organizations.
Alien In-Line Skating on the arena dry pad.

Vivo Policies

Please read Vivo’s Policies and Standards of Conduct prior to registering for programs and using the facility.

Ice Arena Standards of Conduct

  • Children under 10 years of age must be within arm’s reach of a guardian at all times.
  • Guardians must be at least 16 years old and may supervise a maximum of 5 children under 10 years of age at one time.
  • Everyone on ice must wear a CSA-approved ice helmet.
  • Only water and sports drinks on the ice, in change rooms and on the benches.
  • No glass, open food, drink or gum.
  • No spitting, tobacco, smoking or vaping.
  • Intoxicated or impaired guests not permitted.
  • No outside alcohol permitted.
  • No infants on the ice.
  • No street shoes or strollers permitted on the ice.
  • No coaching during public times.
  • Ice surface, including all bench doors, are closed during resurfacing.
  • No rough play or offensive language/behaviour. Vivo has zero tolerance for violence, abuse or harassment.
  • Ice time can be arranged through rentals@vivo.ca.
  • Please only use designated areas to shoot pucks or play mini sticks.
  • Use caution: Ice is slippery and so is the floor when wet.
