Experiencing Community

Hey! I am Alanna, you may know me. Maybe you've seen me around Vivo - I've been calling this place home for over ten years now. This week I was so happy to be invited to my very first Mother's Day Tea with my son's Little Kids, Active Learners preschool class. This somewhat coming of age celebration, so sweetly put on by my son's preschool teachers, has solidified my new status as preschooler mom *high five*

All of the families came together and without holding anything back the class, along with their teachers, put on an energy packed performance of song and dance. We all cheered as together they celebrated mothers and parents alike. And while this day was a celebration for me and all of the other mothers, I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming joy for our children. To me, this was one of their first experiences of community, and of building community. A true coming together of families and friends to share food, stories and experiences. Our children worked together to prepare their performance, families each brought a dish of food to share and together we cozied up in their classroom to find joy together.

This Mother's Day I find comfort in knowing that we have found our village. We have found our group of like-minded friends who care, come together and celebrate. Knowing that my sons are rooted in community and are supported by caring humans in the best gift I could receive.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you loving humans out there!
