Important Update: Weekend Closures & Activities

In our continued effort to reduce water consumption due to the ongoing emergency situation in Calgary, the Vivo Aquatics Centre, Ice Arenas, and showers will remain closed until further notice.

The Aquatics Centre will proceed with the planned warranty and maintenance project, starting June 18. Learn more >>

Closure Details:

  • The Aquatics Centre, including all pools, hot tub, steam room, and sauna are closed for warranty work and annual maintenance.
  • All swimming classes and aquatic activities are cancelled, and a credit will be placed on your account.
  • The Ice Arena is also closed; lessons and bookings are cancelled, and a credit will be placed on your account.
  • Showers throughout the facility, including the Fitness Centre, will not be available until further notice.

These services are OPEN:

  • The Gymnasiums, Indoor park, Meeting Rooms, Climbing Wall, Fitness Studios and Arena Dry Pad are open for use.
  • The Fitness Centre is open; however, showers are unavailable.
  • Preschool and Childminding are open.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are the Aquatics Centre, Ice Arenas, and showers closed?

A: Due to an emergency water main break in Calgary, our Aquatics Centre, Ice Arenas, and showers are temporarily closed. This closure also coincides with our scheduled warranty and annual maintenance project for the Aquatics Centre that starts June 18.

Q: When will the facilities reopen?

A: Due to the dynamic situation, Vivo will monitor all direction from the City of Calgary, and reopen as we are able. The Aquatics Centre will remain closed until the scheduled warranty work and maintenance are complete.

Q: What activities and facilities are available and continue to operate as normal?

A: You can still enjoy:

  • Fitness Centre and Studios (showers unavailable)
  • Gymnasiums and Indoor Park
  • Climbing Wall
  • Arena Dry Pad
  • Meeting rooms
  • Preschool
  • Childminding services

Q: Will my swimming classes and aquatic activities be rescheduled or a credit placed on my account?

A: Yes, all swimming classes and aquatic activities that were cancelled due to the closure will have a credit placed on account.  Due to the maintenance and warranty work in our Aquatics Centre, we will not be able to reschedule the classes that will impacted.  All credits will be processed the week of June 17, 2024.

Q: Will my skating classes or arena ice bookings be rescheduled or credited?

A: Any lessons and bookings for the Ice Arena that are cancelled will have a credit placed on account.

Q: Are aquatic and ice classes for June 15 – 17 cancelled?

A: Yes, all skating and swim classes, arena and aquatic activities that are cancelled due to the closure will have a credit placed on account. Our team will reach out to you with further details.

Q: When can I pick up report cards now that classes are cancelled this weekend?

A: Report cards will be ready for pick-up at the East Guest Services counter after June 18, 2024. Credits will begin to be processed the week of June 17.

Q: Will the Fitness Centre remain open?

A: Yes, the Fitness Centre will remain open, but showers will be unavailable until further notice.

Q: Why is Vivo proceeding with the warranty and maintenance project?

A: Vivo’s construction partner Ellis Don, needs to complete essential warranty and deficiency work from our recent Expansion project. For efficiency, while Ellis Don is doing this work, Vivo will perform our annual maintenance. This will ensure that we get the Aquatics Centre back up and running as soon as we can.

Q: Is there any ability to repurpose the pool water during warranty and maintenance work?

A: Team Vivo has worked with all of our industry and civic partners to find a solution. At this time, a solution could not be reached that would repurpose or use the water that meets health and safety or environmental standards.

Q: What happens if Vivo is not permitted to refill the pools after the warranty work and maintenance project is complete?

A:  If water restrictions remain in place by the time maintenance is complete, we will investigate options to ensure we are prepared to reopen once restrictions are lifted.
