Vivo has worked with the community and partners on many in-depth research projects. At Vivo, our goal is to always use research to inform action to raise healthier generations. Through research and innovation we are able to take intentional steps that are meaningful to the community for healthy living.

We partnered with the Calgary Parks Foundation to understand what creates a sense of belonging in North-Central Calgary.

We discovered that in a traditional recreation program, children spend an average of 61% of their time standing, sitting or lying down. The 4-in-1 Physical Literacy Program flipped that statistic on its head with a focus on fundamental movement skills across four environments.

The Vivo instructor, also known as the Gen H Instructor, was developed through the 4-in-1 Physical Literacy research findings to combat sedentary behaviour while having fun, establishing a social connection, and developing physical literacy for the participants in our programs.

Creating Coventry was a community-driven research project to re-imagine and create a 20-year master plan for 14 outdoor parks across Coventry Hills, all informed by members of the community.

The Vivo Play Project was a four-year social innovation project and community lab that encouraged kids and families to move and connect more in local parks through free loose parts play. In a world dominated by screens, we set out to make unstructured play more accessible, engaging, and impactful.

The Youth Ambassador Program was a free learning opportunity to foster young people’s confidence and competence to better prepare them for the evolution of Calgary’s workforce and securing employment.
