Welcoming Healthier Generations
Inclusivity and accessibility is part of everything we do at Vivo. Our spaces, programs, and services are designed to welcome all bodies and abilities, with features like barrier-free parking and entrances, assistive-device-friendly pools, accessible fitness equipment, universal washrooms, and sensory-friendly environments. We also offer adaptive programs and flexible spaces to support the wide range of needs in our community.
Parking
Complimentary Parking
You’ll find free parking in both our East (arena’s) and West (library) lots.
Accessible Parking & Parent Parking
Vivo’s East and West lots include accessible parking and designated parent parking. Parent parking is reserved for expecting mothers and new parents with young children. These spots are wider and located close to curb cuts and entrances for easier access to our facility.
Charging Stations
Need to charge your electric car? You’ll find charging stations in both our West and East lots.
Inclusive Facilities
At Vivo, everyone is welcome. In addition to men’s and women’s washrooms throughout the facility, we also offer inclusive options to meet the needs of all guests.
Gender-Neutral Washrooms
You’ll find gender-neutral washrooms in the Indoor Park, Fitness Centre, and Aquatic Centre. These spaces are large and easy to use, with roll-under sinks, wide walkways, grab bars, and help buttons for added safety and comfort.
Universal Change Rooms
Our universal change rooms in the Fitness Centre, and Aquatic Centre offer private spaces for families, caregivers, and anyone who prefers a more inclusive option. Each room includes a private shower, space to move around, an adult-sized change table, and a lift for added support.
Breastfeeding
Vivo is a breastfeeding-friendly space. You’re welcome to nurse anywhere in the facility. If you prefer a quiet space, our Nursing Room is located in the gender-neutral washroom inside the Indoor Park. It includes a comfy chair, a sink, room for strollers, and a few toys to keep older children entertained.
Navigation
Signage
Vivo’s wayfinding signs have high contrast, braille, and clear icons to help everyone find their way—no matter their language, reading level, or vision.
Transferring Between Floors
Guests can choose to use the ramp by Vivo’s West Entrance, or our two 6.75 ft x 5.45 ft elevators to easily go between floors of the facility.
Service Animals
We know how important service dogs are to their handlers, and we’re happy to welcome them at Vivo. During their visit, they must wear a harness or tags to show they are working.
Unfortunately, for health and safety reasons, service dogs cannot go in the pool. They are allowed on the pool deck and in the pool viewing area, as long as someone stays with them at all times, including while their handler swims.
Hard-of-Hearing Devices
Hard-of-hearing devices are available at all Guest Services desks. If you require assistance, please visit a Guest Services representative, and they will be happy to help.
Sensory Considerations
Sensory Time
During Sensory Time, select areas are adjusted to be calmer and more welcoming for those with sensory sensitivities. Each space runs at 50% of normal capacity to reduce noise and crowds. Music is turned down or off completely, and our lighting is dimmed or softened where possible.
Sensory Room
If our guests are overwhelmed, they can also take a break in our Sensory Room.
Sensory Backpacks
Vivo offers Sensory Backpacks for rent with a refundable $10 deposit. These backpacks are filled with helpful tools to support self-regulation.
Accessible Aquatics
Vivo’s Aquatic Centre is designed to be inclusive, offering features and programs that ensure everyone can safely enjoy the water:
- Mobility Aids: Adult and youth water wheelchairs, and water walkers (available on the pool deck, first-come, first-served.)
- Pool Access: Pool lift for the hot tub, beach entry to the tot pool, leisure pool, and lazy river, wheelchair ramp to the lane pool.
- Facility Accessibility: Wheelchair-accessible steam room and sauna with 1,500mm turning radius and grab bars; accessible change rooms with adult changing table.
- Sensory Swimming: Every Monday to Thursday from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM capacity is limited to 50% and lights and sounds are dimmed.
- SwimAbilities® specialty program for children 3-16 years of age who require additional support while in the water.
