We are equipped with the staff, volunteers, technique, perspective, and enthusiasm needed to create personalized research and innovation projects and solutions that support our partners work to foster healthier, happier and more connected communities.

Sparking meaningful change in the lives of all Canadians is no small feat. It requires an inquisitive nature, an entrepreneurial attitude, the ability to convene and collaborate, and the capacity to deliver. Along the way we have developed four Innovation Superpowers:

Measurement And Evaluation, Knowledge Translation, Co-Creation, Multi-Sector Collaboration

These Innovation Superpowers support our mission to raise healthier generations now, and well into the future. Together with our community, we use these superpowers to kick start healthy lifestyles. Measurement & Evaluation
Impact matters, that’s why it’s one of our core values that guides our behaviour. We help kids be active, families get healthy and communities be strong. With impact in mind, we continually ask ourselves: how do we know that what we are doing is making a meaningful impact? The habits and practices of our families and communities lead the way for change. By gaining a better understanding of these habits we can really start to raise healthier generations.

Grassroots evaluation tactics ensure that energy is focussed where it matters most; real results guided by real people. By establishing baseline studies a whole picture of the community is developed, indicating where opportunities for the biggest impact exist. There’s a humility to it all. We willingly compare our own results and practices to our industry friends without any expectations or peacock feathers flying. We take real results and put them into action, turning a lens back on our own practices to ask, what needs to change? Then, a protoype is rolled out. This is where the intervention happens, following it up with more rigorous study and evaluation -taking us all one step closer to Gen H.

Knowledge Translation
To instigate change, we all require scalable, easily implemented solutions. Vivo takes dense, thorough data and makes it ‘streetable’ - so everyone can understand and participate in the movement. Big shifts start with small steps. With the right support and opportunities, those shifts become a groundswell of positive change, resulting in dramatic improvements to the health of our nation and all its citizens.

Grabbing the attention of a screen-locked world is a challenge. Together, with the Knowledge Translation Superpower, we can bring the message to where it matters most: into our communities, schools, homes, and backyards.
The Co-Creation Superpower is based on one key factor: people-powered results. The knowledge held within our communities is a precious resource. Stepping away from the notion of what “should be” according to textbooks, and jumping right into the thick of the community allows us to see what matters most. Here, we see that the health of our communities and the strength of our connections are integral to raising healthier generations.

Cohesive, connected communities are built through participation and dialogue. Being civic-driven researchers and innovators means we value community and expert opinion, bringing these powerhouses together to create a new model of personalization and customization that works directly with those that will benefit the most.
Multi-Sector Collaboration
Vivo partners with the nation’s brightest minds from a wide spectrum of sectors, including health, recreation, education and public policy. We’re an idea incubator committed not only to serious inquiry but, more significantly, effective outcomes. Diverse perspectives help tackle challenges through collaboration, leveraging strengths and insights. Together, we are stronger.

We work with a number of movers and shakers in Calgary including Mount Royal University, Calgary Public Library, Brookfield Residential, Northern Hills Connect, Campus Calgary/Open Minds, The City of Calgary, and more. A holistic approach to well-being provides insights and tools to bring healthy living into everyday life. We do the nitty gritty research work, the high level conceptualization, and, the fun part, the implementation of exciting new initiatives.
